The sycamore maple ( Acer pseudoplatanus ) is a plant belonging to the Sapindaceae family. It is sometimes improperly called sycamore. Sycamore maple is a tall plant that can reach 25–40 min height and a trunk diameter of 3.5 m. It has a globular and broad crown; the bark is initially gray or yellowish and then tends to reddish and detaches in large plates. It has opposite buds, like all maples. The flowers appear after the leaves appear. The fruit is a double samara. In adult trees it resembles the bark of the plane tree, hence its scientific name.
