It is a cylindrical structure with a circular plan, built with small stone ashlars; joists are visible externally, which in all probability served to support wooden beams. It has never had housing functions, such as castles, for noble families. The entrance is located on the side opposite the escarpment, while two windows, one of which is circular, are present on the side facing the town. The birth and growth of Campochiaro as an urban entity is closely linked to the phenomenon of the fortification of the 9th century and to the consequent construction of the Rocca, still identifiable today with the tower located at the highest point of the town , it is among the most important strategic positions and defensive present in the crossing area of the Matese sheep track with the Pescasseroli-Candela sheep track. Around it you can recognize the walls equipped with clearly visible towers and incorporated into the houses.
