THE FEMALE COSTUME

Campochiaro's women's costume is among the most complicated and elegant in Molise due to the slender line, the number of garments, all of the same dark colour, the fine combination of delicate trimmings and some peculiarities, such as the "line" (band of cloth or velvet) and the “mappa cu'pezzille" (head cloth with lace). In Campochiaro the women plait their hair with white ribbons (pans) and keep them around their heads like a halo. The map is by black cloth or white cloth decorated with Isernia lace. On their chest they wear a white silk handkerchief with fringes, fixed with a band of cloth with gold embroidery (floral motifs). The skirt is all pleated at the back, and the apron is trimmed with ribbons.

THE MALE COSTUME
White linen or hemp shirt, with piping, long sleeves and wide at the shoulders and cuffs.
The trousers are in woolen cloth, long to below the knee where they had side splits fastened with the same golden buttons, used for the closures on the sides.
On the belt we find a wool band to hold up the trousers, 3 cm high, with dense embroidery in red, yellow, light blue, purple, knotted on the right side with the hanging ends.
The camisole is made of the same fabric as the trousers and, for the holidays, the runino-colored one was used, double-breasted, sleeveless with a pointed neckline and golden buttons. The men's handkerchief is embroidered, tied under the chin.
The jacket, little used, in black peasant woolen cloth, is long up to the buttocks, single-breasted with three buttons, and a collar with two inverted points.
Stockings made of rag or white or black wool, with purple or dark red wool laces.
The shoes, in black leather, laced up in front with a wide heel.
The hat, in black felt, with a slightly flattened dome and decorated with a band with floral embroidery in harmony with the wide-brimmed belt.
The cloak, full circle, of black cloth, heavy and long.
